Best Snowboarding Video Games

$

Snowboarding games have seen it all, from the early gaming days of Super Nintendo to the latest Nintendo Wii, Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 consoles, snowboarding games have come along way. Whether you're looking for a realistic beat-the-clock snowboarding game, or an over-the-top trick frenzy, just about every dynamic has been tackled when it comes to this genre.

To help some of you looking for a good snowboarding video game, here's a list of some of the best ones ever made.

Shaun White Snowboarding (SWS)
Without doubt Shaun White snowboarding offers the best graphics of all the snowboarding games currently available. The concept of big, full, open mountains works really well. Sprinkled across each mountain are a series of challenges which can be tackled either alone or with friends online. In fact, you can play all of SWS offline or online. Though, of course, it's a lot more fun to play with friends. Either way, you must make your way to a challenge marker and give it a go. In multiplayer, you'll be able to choose whom to invite to a challenge and then they can either accept or reject. It's a smart system that works well.

SSX 3
The SSX series has been known primarily for one thing: tricks. The stunts users can pull of are visually stunning and make for an endless amount of fun. Unlike many snowboarding titles, SSX 3 restricts its courses to a single mountain. While this may seem like a negative, it approaches from a different point of view by giving the player the ability to "conquer the mountain", learning every nook and cranny of the slopes to maximize their points. With a wide variety of characters each with their own signature move and a good soundtrack, SSX 3 is one snowboarding title I highly recommend.

1080 Snowboarding
1080 Snowboarding may be one of the hardest snowboarding games ever created, but in that difficulty lies the fun. Where this game lacks in fancy visuals and diverse character models, it makes up for in technicality. Positioning your board just right is crucial in landing those big jumps, and the slightest error will quickly have you falling down the mountain face-first. 1080 Snowboarding may not have the best of graphics, but it does capture what it's really like to snowboard excellently. Freshly powdered snow will leave a small cloud as you whiz through it, and the familiar "whoosh" sound as you zoom down the mountain all aid in the awesome realistic experience.

Coolboarders 3
Coolboarders 3 is markedly different from its predecessors (and many other snowboarding games), in that instead of boarding down a wide-open mountain, players zoom down particularly narrow passages. The focus is on speed and races can get fairly crowded; to aid with the bunching, Coolboarders 3 added a punching mechanism that allows you to slow down your opponents by effectively smacking them around. One of the paramount features of Coolboarders 3 is the sheer variety of characters that are available.

There are over ten stock characters, each far different from the rest in terms of both looks and skills, and an additional eight secret characters that can be unlocked by completing various challenges. There's also a bonus level included once you complete the game called "avalanche", where you are dropped out of a helicopter to race for your life from the crumpling mountain behind you!

While it seems like almost every approach to a snowboarding video game has been done, it's my guess that each New Year that comes will bring along with it something new to give to all you snowboarding video game fans out there. Hopefully this short list has given you some insight into the world of the best snowboarding video games.

The White Line - The Must-See Snowboarding Movie This Season

Showcasing the trailer for the 'The White Line', a new snowboarding movie beautifully filmed with a unique and novel angle. The movie follows Jake Cornish, living, working and riding in Switzerland as he works and supports his family whilst still making time for the snow.

But what makes this story unique is that Jake is an avalanche surviver who was dragged a mile through a forest and shattered both his arms. Had it not been for his friend Angus, he'd likely not be alive to tell his story but 5 years on, here it is... filled with nuts, bolts and a layer of scars Jake is still riding.

This is a story about him and why he rides.

We loved The Art of Flight snowboarding movie with it's crazy cool helicopter shots showing top snowboarders from around the globe show off their talents along with their crown full of sponsors. But 'The White Line' movie has real heart and looks at how real snowboarders juggle their passion for snow and adrenaline with running a normal family life. It's really inspiring as many snowboarders like myself aren’t pro riders and don’t live in the mountains, especially us in England!

I loved the angle of the movie as it's made for snowboarders who spend their days at a desk in full-time jobs and earning a wage to look after their family.

Best Snowboarding Googles? Futuristic Oakley Airwave Goggles Lead The Way

Oakley frequently set the standard when it comes to snow goggles. But this time they haven't simply raised the bar in terms of visual capability. The Oakley Airwave does more. Much, much more. These Oakley goggles are set to transform the way we take to the mountain forever.

In fact, the features that have been squeezed into these Oakley goggles is almost unbelievable. Even we had to look twice at the list of tech. Should you want to, connecting with your world away from the mountain is now possible. The Oakley Airwave's heads-up display developed by Recon has been integrated with GPS and Bluetooth. This means the Airwave can connect to your smartphone, and beam emails and text messages directly onto the lens. It'll even receive incoming calls too, so you won't miss anything important.

The handy device the Airwave uses to display and relay information, the MOD Live, is unobtrusive too. So it doesn't obscure your view. Even the way data appears is impressive. Using ground-breaking Prism technology, everything appears to be five feet away across a 14 inch screen. So you won't need to refocus your eyes.

That fighter pilot-inspired display improves the shredding experience too. Tracking your progress and runs has never been so precise. The Oakley Airwave tells you precisely how fast you're descending. In the air, the goggle will tell you how high and far you jump, and how much time you've actually spent in the air. If you've got a favourite playlist to ride to, these snow goggles will access it too. So you've got the tunes that keep you pumped ready and waiting at all times.

Even in remote backcountry, the geography of your surroundings is laid bare for you to examine. You'll be able to find out your vertical feet by run, by day and over the course of the entire season. By using the goggle and it's associated Android and Apple iPhone app (you can even buy these Oakley Airwave goggles from Apple.com), you'll even have the ability to find and track your friends.

Make no mistake, this goggle isn't just revolutionary for the electronics it carries. Plutonite lenses deliver unrivalled precision and clarity, even in hostile conditions. Oakley's anti-fog armoury also plays a starring role, with F3 anti-fog technology operating between the lenses to stop moisture settling. The O-Matter frame is extremely tough and light too, and Switchlock Technology allows you to change lenses instantly. Welcome to the future of alpine eyewear.

For more information on these Oakley Airwave goggles check out the Oakley Airwave webpage.

History of Burton - Infographic

We like a bit of snowboarding history and when it comes to snowboard brands, Burton Snowboards are one of the finest and most established. Since 1977, Burton Snowboards were one of the first snowboard companies on the scene designing, manufacturing and marketing a full line of snowboarding equipment, clothing, and related accessories.

Although snowboarding did not become a well-recognized sport until the early 1990s, Burton began manufacturing snowboards and bindings in 1977, when the company's founder started making his own boards in a borrowed woodworking shop in Stratton, Vermont. From these modest origins, Burton developed into a flourishing enterprise with offices in Europe and Japan that served customers in 27 countries.

Recognized as an industry pioneer, Burton controlled roughly 40 percent of the U.S. snowboarding market during the late 1990s, more than any other company in the world. Here's a nice infographic that details the Burton Snowboard timeline.

5 Coolest Apres-Ski Hangouts In Tignes

$

0
Tignes is a fantastic destination for skiing and snowboarding holidays in France, so it's a prime candidate for your next snow-based adventure. Of course, for many people, this kind of getaway is as much about apres-ski as it is about the pistes themselves.

So, before deciding where to go, check out my guide to the local nightlife. Split into three main areas - Le Lac, Val Claret and Le Lavachet - Tignes has a lot to offer travellers with a large appetite for apres-ski.

These range from lively, sports-focused bars to more upmarket eateries, which means there is something to suit most kinds of holidaymaker.

Le Loop Bar
Where: Le Lac, at the foot of the Rosset and Trolles slopes
Le Loop Bar is a real favourite, so it should come high up on your list of places to visit. Of course, since it's popular with so many holidaymakers, it does tend to get rather crowded, so be prepared to have lots of company. Its features like live sports screenings and a pool table mean it is really popular among holidaymakers.

What I think sounds best about this bar, though, is its sun terrace, which is said to be the best in the entire resort - particularly as it looks out over a lake. It's also got an excellent reputation for its gourmet burgers, so it is well worth visiting if you are something of a foodie. In the evenings, this place tends to get pretty lively, especially as it often has live music and DJ sets, making it one of the top places in Tignes for a night out.

The Marmot Arms
Where: Le Lac
This charmingly-named pub is handily situated at the foot of the Palafour chairlift, making it a really convenient choice for a post-ski drink. The Marmot Arms is a relatively new venue on the Tignes apres-ski scene, but it's quickly managed to make itself popular.

Upstairs, you can tuck into yet more gourmet burgers (always much appreciated after a day on the slopes!), while downstairs, in the Burrow Bar, you can check out weekly live music.

Couloir
Where: Val Claret
If your ski chalet in Tignes is in Val Claret, make sure you head to Couloir. Known for its excellent cocktails and whisky selection, this bar also has a great restaurant. The nice thing about dining here is that, unlike many other local restaurants and watering holes, you can try fare from around the world, rather than being restricted to either traditional French cuisine or burgers (not that there's anything wrong with either of those!).

Melting Pot
Where: Val Claret
Bars and restaurants are all well and good, but for most of us a club night or two is essential for the ultimate apres-ski experience. Tignes is home to several clubs, with Melting Pot being among the best. As well as being quite reasonably priced, it plays a decent selection of music without resorting to too much cheesy pop.

So Bar
Where: La Lavachet
If you fancy enjoying your apres-ski in modern and upmarket surroundings, So Bar is a great place to go - particularly if you're after high-quality food and drinks. In fact, quality is what this venue prides itself on, so it is an absolute must for anyone with a real taste for wine and spirits. Open from 14:00 to 02:00 local time, this bar also serves snacks such as paninis and tapas, alongside decadent desserts like tempting waffles.

5 Cool Smart Phone Ski and Snowboarding Apps

Showcasing 5 really cool smart phone ski and snowboarding apps.

Ski Tracks

Ski Tracks is a top-of-the line ski navigation application available on most smart phones. Start the app calculator when you leave your resort to hit the slopes and it will track all of your skiing or snowboarding statistics for the day, including your average run speed, fasted course run, total distance travelled during the day, and any altitude changes. This application is not just for professional skiers and snowboarders—though it is certainly used by them—but can be fun for any level of skier or snowboarder to track his progress and speed throughout a day of fun in the snow.

Ski Forecast

This is a great smart phone app for the travelling skier. Covering over 800 ski locations in the United States and Europe, Ski Forecast provides up-to-date information about the weather and ski conditions with the click of a button. Ski Forecast does more than just tell you the current weather and snow conditions. It’s perfect for those skiers who are trying to decide what ski resort to visit because it gives a 15-day forecast of weather, snowfall, and snow conditions on the ground. It also logs the date of the last snowfall and the amount of snow recorded as well as the snow probability, which is always kept up-to-date. Ski Forecast also records the wind speed and direction as well as the time for sunset and sundown at each location, so you can hit the slopes early and leave late. Using GPS technology, Ski Resort also automatically tells you the ski conditions in the closest public skiing area. Ski Forecast is available in 7 languages.

Ski School

For those skiers who need a refresher course but don’t want to take lessons, try the Ski School application, which is available for most smart phones. This app comes in a number of different skill levels including beginner, intermediate, and advanced. With the click of a button, watch legendary ski instructor, Darren Turner, as he gives easy-to-follow tips as well as real-time demonstrations, so you can brush up on your snow sports skills without wasting time and money on face-to-face lessons. As you watch Turner’s presentations and demonstrations, cue cards pop up to remind you of key skills and safety tips.

Ski Webcams

Who wants to decide on a ski location without checking out the slopes first? Ski Webcams, a free application available on most smart phones, lets you do just that. With high-definition videos shot by real skiers in over 400 ski locations across the United States, Canada, and Europe, Ski Webcams provides you with an up-close and personal look at some of the most spectacular runs in some of the best ski locations on earth. Watch for fun or to research your next big ski adventure.

TouchSki 3D

Just because you can’t be on the slopes year round doesn’t mean that you can pretend to be. Though TouchSki 3D won’t improve your ski skills or help you research your next big skiing adventure, it’s a great way to pass the time when you just can’t be in the snow. This fun game presents 3D ski slopes that you have to navigate with your screen. Choose from a variety of locations and ski levels. The game is so realistic; you may just forget that you’re at your office and not hitting the slopes with your buddies.

Cool Mens Snowboard Jackets for 2012/13 Season

$
0
0
Each winter season we see the latest styles and designs in snowboarding jackets and this season is no different. Here we showcase some of our favourite snowboard jackets for this 2012/13 season.

Burton X COOGI

There's always one snowboard jacket that sticks out above the rest and this season it could be the Burton X COOGI. COOGI are well known for their colorful knitwear founded in Australia and were popularised in the U.S. as urban hip-hop wear by rappers such as Biggie and famous comedian/actor, Bill Cosby. For this 2012 season, the label has collaborated with Burton for a special Rubdown down snowboard jacket...and man it's colorful!

Burton Payday Puffy

Burton again sorry and this one looks like a jacket Shaun White would wear. Stacked with features the jacket includes pockets galore for music, goggles and more. Pretty cool!

Ride Admiral Jacket

We like this Ride snowboard jacket for its pockets. It has an interior goggle pocket and also has another interior pocket. Also, the exterior water-proof zipper pockets have a weird rubberized interior material, which is different and should keep your hands warm..maybe.

Dakine Zone Jacket

There might be an orange thing going down on the slopes this winter. We spotted this cool Dakine Zone snowboard jacket recently on muchawesome.com and really like it.  The Zone Jacket sits in the middle of its jacket line, offering plenty of protection and warmth without costing more than the average snowboard.

Burton Poacher Jacket

For entry level snowboarders or intermediate riders looking for a budget option, it's hard to do better than the Burton Poacher. Burton describes the jacket as "weatherproof breathable." This means that the two layers of protection allow some breathability, but the seams are taped for protection from cold. Although this jacket is short on high-tech features, the interior mesh goggle pocket (with audio stash for your iPod or mp3 player) is a nice upgrade.

686 Reserved Havoc Insulated Jacket

For snowboarders looking to take a step up to a mid-range jacket, 686's Reserved Havoc jacket offers plenty of features and aggressive styling. This jacket features just 40g of insulation, which makes it useful for runs on warmer days. Add layers for colder temperatures. The Reserved Havoc uses 686's Tri-Pull hood for better fit and improved peripheral vision. The "hand panties" offer the best possibly protection against snow leaks. And the Fast-Pass retractable pass holder makes flashing your lift ticket a cinch. Like the Burton Poacher, the 686 Reserved Havoc also includes an internal media pocket.

Burton AK Collection 2L LZ Down Jacket

Advanced snowboarders love advanced gear. And that's exactly the point of the Burton 2L LZ jacket from the AK Collection. Starting at $519.95, Burton's 2L LZ costs a bundle. However, Burton has loaded this jacket with features. The high-loft 600-fill goose down prevents heat loss, but the insulation thinks around the collar and openings for mobility. Fully-taped GORE-TEX 2L fabric both vents and repels snow. Burton guarantees that this jacket will keep you dry with a lifetime warranty. For snowboarders who have the cash and ride in harsh conditions, Burton's 2L LZ is a good choice.

I think Burton again this season have the coolest snowboard jacket range out of all the jacket manufacturers.

For those who want a snowboard mount that is a little more tried and tested and not too expensive then check out below.

Snowboard Jump Landing Pad - Safe Way To Practice!

$
0
0
At snowboardingdays.com we love to hear anything that improves snowboarding safety. One unanswered question over the years has been "How to practice big snowboard jumps safely without putting your life in danger?" Well, one snowboarder who tragically broke his neck leaving him la quadriplegic whilst performing a 50ft snowboard jump at Whistler Blackcomb 7 years ago has come up with the answer.

Pro-snowboarder Aaron Coret has invented a landing pad that offers an effective safety net. With the help of his fellow student Stephen Slen he designed a landing pad so that snowboarders could practise jumps without risk of serious injury. Last year, their company, Katal, won an innovation award from Popular Science.

Katal snowboard landing pad inventors Stephen Slen, left, and Aaron Coret at Whistler Blackcomb terrain park, Canada. Photograph: Christopher J Morris/Redux/eyevine

The idea for this snowboard landing pad came to Aaron in his 40 days in Vancouver hospital whilst recovering from his horrific injury. He thought of how to keep encourage snowboarders to try tricks in a safe environment. Coret says "Normally you just go to a training park – which is hard-packed or icy snow. Basically, you just give it a go. But if you make one mistake, you have to pay for it. That's the reason a lot of people don't try a lot of the tricks they have in their heads – because the risks are too high. When they do, there are usually high consequences because of very small mistakes, as I know".

What do snowboarders think of the landing pad?
Coret is delighted to say "Everybody absolutely loves the thing. Yet it's been a slow start for us. Resorts have been slow to come around to airbags. Three years ago, when we started up, we wanted to do a tour of resorts, but no one would even let us on the hill! But now we've made a lot of progress. Resorts have seen that air-bags are actually legitimate safety-mitigation tools. We are getting a lot of interest from all over the world. We just sold our first airbag to a resort in Russia called Kirovsk".

Snowbombing Festival 2013 - Kasabian Headline Act

$

0
The annual Snowbombing Festival is nearly upon us with English rock band Kasabian headlining with an 'intimate sunset acoustic show' but for those who've never heard of the Snowboarding Festival, here's some more information for you on this increasingly popular snow event.

Are you looking for something unusual, unique, and totally mind blowing to do with yourself this spring? Want to get out and enjoy the fresh air and maybe get some snowboarding in whilst having a blast? Most importantly are you looking for the musical experience to end them all? Then the Snowbombing festival is made for you!

The Snowbombing festival was started in 2000 as a nightclub promotional and has grown into the popular week-long winter sports and music festival that is held annually in the spring at the Austrian ski resort of Mayrhofen where it has been at home since 2005.

The Snowbombing Festival is filled with a unique blending of fresh air, blue skies, black runs and white-hot parties. Should you choose to attend your Days are spent skiing or boarding, rocking out to music performed live on mountain top stages or relaxing in the spa of a nearby 5 star Hotel. Then your nights would deliver cutting edge performances from world class acts brought together from various musical walks all to perform in unique venues; that range from an igloo positioned high in the mountains, to an enchanting forest clearing lit up for the party and filled with screaming fans. This makes the Snowbombing experience a mystical, musical, and entirely without equal anywhere else in the planet.

Europe's biggest snow and music festival was originally a DJ with electronic dance music-themed event, but in 2008 it was updated to include and feature live acts on the bill, reflecting the resurging demand for indie/rock music. The event is formatted and designed to combine winter sports (primarily snowboarding) with a combination of on-piste and après-ski musical performances and uniquely themed parties placed in unusual locations, including a forest clearing, an igloo village, a traditionally remote alpine farmstead and an open-air street party.

Artists who've appeared at various Snowbombing events in the past include:
  • Fatboy Slim
  • Madness
  • Pendulum
  • Magnetic Man
  • Sub Focus
  • Tinie Tempah
  • Chase & Status
  • Skream & Benga
  • Mark Ronson
  • Dizzee Rascal
  • Dirty Pretty Things
  • Grandmaster Flash
  • Foals
  • 2ManyDJs
  • The Enemy
  • Zane Lowe
  • Freestylers
  • Mylo
  • Dave Clarke
  • Gilles Peterson
  • Fabio
  • Grooverider
  • Tim Westwood
  • The Cuban Brothers
  • James Zabiela
The event has a reputation for its imaginative and humorous elements and keeping with traditional Austrian cultural references being embraced (e.g. oompah bands, lederhosen and sausages) and given over to a contemporary or surreal twist. Unconventional clothing is greatly encouraged in a series of fancy dress themes which are often strictly adhered to by many attendees (aka ‘Snowbombers’) and Snowbombing even has its own way of attracting a variety of cult celebrities like Mr. Motivator that are often engaged to come out to entertain and interact with the crowds.

The festival is also notable for being the first to give those who attend an alternative means of arriving to the festival other than flying. The Snowbombing Road Trip is not a race as one might think at first but a leisurely international drive from the UK to Mayrhofen, involving several collection points en route, an overnight ‘pit stop’ in Frankfurt, and an arrival procession in Mayrhofen that sets off the event to its finest opening each year.

The 2013 Snowbombing Festival starts April 1st 2013. Visit the Snowbombing Festival website to find out more info.

Top 10 Snowboard Parks in Europe

$

From the skate park to the beach, snowboarding was born out of the thrill seekers who wanted more than sand, sea, and concrete. Today’s snowboarding has grown out of dashing past the skiers on the downhill into freeriding, free-styling, pipes, and terrain parks. With the greats like Shaun White inspiring new leaders in the sport every day, you have to check out these amazing parks in Europe on your next adventure.

Mayrhofen - Tyrolean, Austria
Probably the best group of parks in Austria, Mayrhofen is part of a large area that snowboarders rank at the top of places to visit with freeriding, freestyling, the Snowbombing Festival, Burton Park and Vans Penken Park. Just 43 miles from Innsbruck the quaint bucolic town of Tyrolean welcomes you with magnificent mountains the call for your board. There are miles and miles or pistes and many options for the snowboarder especially now that there is a park sponsored by Burton.

At the Vans Penken Park in Mayrhofen snowboarding is at its peak with 11 kickers, 2 hips, 34 boxes & rails, and a halfpipe but more about that later as it clearly deserves a section all to itself. There is a medium and advanced area, a fun and challenging pro area, and a kid’s safe area.

LAAX, Switzerland
In the Swiss Alps, you will find LAAX, Europe’s premiere snowboarding resort with its 4 snow parks, largest half pipe, freestyle slope and academy. Made for everyone from the first time boarders, to the budget group ski holidays, to the Olympic champions, LAAX does not lack for excitement for any visitor. LAAX has 7 cable cars, 4 gondolas, 7 chairlifts, 8 drag lifts, and 3 lifts designed for children. The pistes are evenly distributed between easy, intermediate, and advanced with a total 0f 60 slopes. LAAX boasts a reputation for boarders with one of the best set of all round terrain parks in Europe.

One of the coolest place to practice snowboarding even in the summertime is located in Laax and here's a video of the indoor centre:

Les Deux Alpes – Venosc & Mont-de-Lans, France
Tucked away in western France is the picturesque Les Deux Alpes, an all-year, all-style resort with it’s famous terrain parks, a variety of off-piste choices and a breathtaking glacier. This is one of the biggest and friendliest resorts in France. There are a large array of jumps and rails with 2 half pipes and snow permitting a huge 80ft table top jump know to the locals as the Showtime Booter. During the summer there are camp programs aimed at freestylers on the glacier.

Avoriaz Snowzone – Avoriaz, France
Avoriaz was the first park to open its arms and slopes to snowboarders. Since the first boarder dropped his board on the slopes, Avoriaz has had a place for him to play. The resort is in western France and shares a border with Switzerland, miles of free styling piste to carve up at your leisure and pleasure. There are levels and terrains parks to suit any snowboarder from the easy bunny slopes and play area to the expert levels with trees, big cliffs, powder bowls, and easy wide flats. There are several zones for excitement including Ski Adventure, Chapelle snowpark, and the Freestyle Park. At the Freestyle you will find the Superpipe, Arere Snowpark, the Stash, the Lil’Stash, the Burton Kids Parkway, and the Boarder-Cross. There is so much to do, you will need a month of Sundays for all this fun.

Vars/Risoul – Hautes-Alpes, France
Vars/Risoul resort was an early adopter of snowboarding. The Surfland snowpark has existed for over a decade and is through many renovations over the years it is now completed to include rails for beginners and experienced users. The snowpark was chosen as a training zone for the 2006 Turin Winter Olympics for its versatility and challenging areas. The resort believes that the concept of black, red and blue run grading is outdated and is moving the system to a series of more themed areas such as the free ride zone. This area includes a larger area for skiers and all around fun in the snow.

Valpark – Val d’Isere, France
Valpark in Val d’lsere France is known as a haven to snowboarders. The town itself let alone the park fully encourage snowboarding and boarders. There are no pistes on the mountain that are restricted or closed off to snowboarding; where many parks have areas no boarders are allowed. The park hosts a large area of hips, jumps, a snowboarder crossing and a half pipe. This wide range allows for snowboarders of all skill levels and abilities to have fun and enjoy the park. Valpark has the very highest of ratings from the French Snowboarding Federation, and is well regarded as one of the top snowboarding parks around the world.

Hemsedal Parken – Hemesedal, Norway
Due to its open mindset and long ski season Hemsedal Park is one of the best places for snowboarders. The mountain is able to support twin half pipes, big jump, quarter pipe, fun boxes and other snowboarding features most parks tend to overlook. The mountain itself is well suited to snowboarding, more so than most in the Scandinavian region due to it having smaller and fewer flats than most. This allows for snowboards to enjoy free riding on the mountain as well as the specific areas designed for snowboarders. This makes Hemsedal one of the best parks to be found for snowboarding.

Les Crosets – Val-d’Illiez, Switzerland
You’ll find Les Crosets to be a sweet little ski village that offers some of the best boarding in the Swiss. Les Crosets has freeriding within easy reach that makes some extremely interesting options for the boarder of all skill levels. Perhaps the best can be found under the Mossette-Suisse chair. From the top of the lift you turn back on yourself, to the left, and you have direct access to the face under the chair. It's wide, steep enough at the top to be fast with one or two rocks to drop if you're looking for air. The run out is straight forward, leading directly onto slopes.

Vans Penken Park – Mayrhofen, Austria
On the sunny side of the Action Mountain Penken, Vans Penken Park stretches over the whole slope. The park has several areas from pro to kids, and a large area just for fun. The park has shapers and engineers that keep the slopes in running order and reshape it all season so it’s always changing. The slopes are regularly shaped with progressive snowboarding and free skiing in mind and have a few more jumps than a regular park would have. Vans Penken Park won European Park of the Year in 2010 and is the site for infamous snowboarding and music festival of Snowbombing, which is an event not to be missed by anyone.

Hintertux – Zillertal, Austrra
Surrounded by mountains and glaciers Hintertux lies furthest up the valley positioned at the foot of the Hintertux Glacier. Hintertux has a number of advantages: it’s a glacial resort, and apart from being one of the best summer snowboard resorts in Europe with an amazing all year round park, it also has an enviable snow record in winter. The open expanse of freeride terrain provides some excellent powder fields that are seldom marred by the morning ski masses. In summer the extent of snow cover over the length of the runs is often more than many resorts get during the winter season. Slopes are always free from busy crowds and riding in a t-shirt is the norm.
